"process"

John McDermott has been the man with a camera here at NZDC right since the dawn of man...well, the dawn of NZDC. Over the years, John has gathered quite the collection of photographs of our company in action. And now, he has made a book to document the history of the company.

"process" is an exciting photographic record of The New Zealand Dance Company at work in the studio on projects including Shona McCullagh's Rotunda. "process" is a coffee table book which makes all your friends say "wow". 90 images of dancers in the rehearsal hall doing what they do best...leaping, twisting, creating beauty. John McDermott’s images are complemented by an introductory essay from leading New Zealand dancer and choreographer Michael Parmenter, and the book is designed internationally renowned designer Jessica Gommers.

Michael Parmenter says in the introduction, "Focusing as it does particularly on the creative process of dance alone, that the tension, even the paradox that exists between dance and photography, between a temporal process and the captured moment, is brought to the fore."

A special treat within this book: the final images included in process are from the initial development period of Lumina with Louise Potiki Bryant and Malia Johnston.

This is a beautiful tribute to the artists who have contributed to the growth of NZDC and every copy sold assists us in our fundraising efforts to sustain our dancers.

This is a great gift, prizegiving book or simply a wonderful record of our dance history.
